How is it that August gave us such perfect summer weather? Every morning we’ve been waking up to a beautiful blue sky and we think, “Great, the sun is going to come up and burn us all into a crisp.” But no! The weather has held in the 70s. Perfectly. And there’s shade! And a breeze! My god, the breeze. Sleeping at night has never felt more fabulous. Why can’t every summer day be this perfect? Listen. Sit down. Are you sitting? Listen. Cherish these days. Hold on to this happiness with everything you have. Or a latte with some macarons. The point is, we only have weeks remaining until darkness covers the land. Or the spiders. Or the spiders that only come out during the darkness. Live for today, ladies and gentlemen. Live for today.

Do we even need a reason for promoting our wine club? Like, have you not been paying attention to this *gestures wildly* year to date? And this is not to say that we need wine to get through another day. Because we do. But these company happy hours on video? EVERY week? It stopped being cute a while ago. And we’re not going to judge – at all – if your plastic tumbler was filled with one of the bottles you get in your subscription. Who’s going to shame you? Courtney? With those PowerPoint skills and her constant use of “Hmm…” in emails? Please.

Where was I? Oh yeah, the wine club. We have four months and two weeks left in this accursed year. For the love of all that’s holy, treat yourself.

I believe it was the famed scientist/astronaut Jodie Foster who once said, “They should have sent a poet.” This is why we all endure daytime temperatures that hit 96° for some god unknown reason. It’s sunsets like this that connect us all. Touching me. Touching you. That’s enough touching now. Oh my God it’s hot GET AWAY FROM ME. STOP TOUCHING ME. Christ you heat up like a sauna.

So there you are. Seated in your living room, about to pour yourself a glass of Meinklang after a long day of zoom meetings about charts and some godawful path to escalation because of a color in the spreadsheet, when fate hands you the most perfect moment: some random guy in your neighborhood having a fight with his girlfriend on the phone. A phone fight! Can you imagine? In 2020. This year has been one shock after another! But I digress. This fight is that moment of levity you‘ve been craving.

And the fight is *not* about Rice-A-Roni. It’s not! It’s about a button that was pushed. Just the one. You lean in. Damn, this wine is an excellent pairing with your eavesdropping. Suddenly the conversation turns to accusations. Heavily peppered with heightened language! God bless this strange man and his desire to have it all out on the phone in public. Should you move to the patio and watch with glass of wine in hand? Do you chant, “drop the zero, get yourself a hero?” So many options!

This isn’t to say you’re invested in their relationship. Jesus no. He pulled this same stunt weeks ago on the street, he’s got more issues than Vogue. But talk about a way to break up the work week with a good dose of mess. The wine helps, too.
