luis alberto balladarez comes from a long history of coffee farming in northern nicaragua. alberto’s beneficio las segovias (coffee processing mill) is known for its focus on speciality coffees and microlots. one thing that makes alberto unique among other mill owners is that he owns and manages several of his own farms. as a mill owner, he owns and manages several assets that allow him to control the quality of each batch of coffee, from harvest to export. this attention to detail and the success of his own microlots has helped beneficio las segovias become a reputable source for specialty coffee and one of the reasons so many other farmers trust him to process their coffees.

the farm is spacious and located atop a mountain. it is an experimental ground for luis, who grows unique and unconventional varieties of coffee.

visiting bls is like entering a coffee sanctuary, with an immaculate cupping room, drying patios and dry mill that are well cared for. luis alberto exudes confidence that is both calming and impressive. quality control is taken very seriously.

Our Mission

We are a small independent coffee shop near Othello Station in Seattle's Rainier Valley.

The story of coffee goes back thousands of years and crosses countless cultures and languages. It brings people together, fuels new ideas and kickstarts our mornings. Coffeehouses provide space to build relationships and have even birthed social and political revolutions. Coffee inspires conversations that expand our minds and change the world we live in.

Our mission is to foster community in the Othello neighborhood and to support the people, artists, activists and small businesses of Rainier Valley. We want to create a Seattle where our neighbors are our friends and everybody's voice is heard and respected. This is our mission; exceptional coffee is our means.
