Swansons Nursery, still going strong more than 100 years after its start, began with a love story. August and Selma Swanson opened their nursery in Ballard in 1924.

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, so we thought we'd share some fun facts about "Shamrocks" from The Old Farmers Almanac :

☘️ The word “shamrock” comes from the Irish word Seamróg, meaning “little clover” or “young clover

☘️Several plants go by the nickname "shamrock" including suckling clover (Trifolium dubium), white clover (Trifolium repens), and wood sorrel (Oxalis acetosella)

☘️According to legend, St. Patrick used a three-leaf shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity, with one leaf representing the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, respectively
