Hello Friends! It has been a beautiful 12 years of making and serving beer at Lowercase. As you may know, we have split our time over the last couple of years between Lowercase and , well, the time has come to focus our efforts entirely on Douglas. So…we will close the Lowercase Brewing facility following our March beer releases. It has been a fantastic journey filled with laughter, friendships, and unforgettable moments. While we will miss making all kinds of lagers, we are excited to shift gears and concentrate on our new project.

Thank you for every pint shared and every memory created. Here’s to the bittersweet farewell and the future ahead! Cheers to all the wonderful people we have met along the way! Stay tuned for updates… including a way to keep Italian Pilsner flowing… :-)

He’s loopy A— F—— and ready for back surgery! Sorry if we’ve been a little out of touch, behind, slow to respond recently, Chris has been laid up with a gnarly back for a while but is finally looking to get some relief today and be back in the swing of things in a month or so. Thank you soooo much to all the friends and family who have helped pick up the slack lately; without you we are a one-winged bird screaming and spiraling towards the earth.

Our label designer, , hand-crafting 30 more tap handles for all our lager-chuggin buds. We are forever indebted to this Jake of all Trades. He embodies our stubbornness to do things by hand, the hard way…as economically dumb as we can possibly make things because the pain of it is what brings us joy. Side note, to anyone that might be using AI to create beer labels…may you be in the first wave of deaths when our robot overlords turn us into batteries.

Polish-Style Pilsner - 4.5% abv

While there is no codified “style” of Polish Pilsner, if we called it that, it would indicate it actually came from Poland, which this beer did not. BUT IT’S HOPS DID! And while beers labeled as Polish Pilsners usually lean more towards the Czech style of brewing, this one is decidedly more German…except that we used Polish hops, specifically Lubelski, aka Lublin. Lublin is an off-shoot of THE Czech Saaz and HOT DAMN, does it ever show it?! Imagine a higher alpha acid Saaz that turns the woody, cedar-y k**b down a couple notches and the lemon k**b up a couple notches. We realize that doesn’t sound like much, but with subtle beers, it just IS.

We’re honored to be invited to the challenge where we’ll compete against 11 other world-class breweries in a blind tasting Pilsner Challenge over the weekennd of June 7-9. We aren’t currently drunk enough to think we have a chance against these lager-making legends but you can bet yer ass we’re going to glean as much knoweledge as we can about making great beer from them.

A huge thank you to not only for the invite but also for the years upon years we’ve spent drinking long-pour pilsners from all of your locations…especially on Phinney Ridge - your dedication to the long pour has been inspiration throughout our beer journey.

Our very own, John Marti, is currently overseas in the UK conducting field research on what to include in some of our upcoming brews. Any guesses on what he's bringing back??

We are excited to introduce you to the latest beer that's about to captivate your taste buds and transport you to the scenic landscapes of the Pacific Northwest - Douglas Lager! 🌲🐦🍻

Crafted with meticulous attention to detail and a passion for the art of brewing, Douglas Lager is a classic, uncomplicated lager that embodies the spirit of the Pacific Northwest. Nestled amidst towering evergreens, cascading waterfalls, and pristine rivers, “Dougie” draws inspiration from the region's natural beauty to bring you an unparalleled lager experience. “Our new Douglas Lager recalls a time when beer was simple and delicious, and when everyday lagers brewed here. We want to bring that tradition back.” - Chris Smith, CEO at Douglas Lager.

We know there are other lagers out there, but we believe the PNW has a legitimate heritage and we’re proud of that. We wanted to honor that heritage by creating a new, easy-drinking lager that’s made here. We're proud to announce an everyday lager with locally sourced ingredients that is brewed and bottled in the PNW. We're almost there, but could use your help. Click the Kickstarter link in our bio to see how you can support our newest project.

Douglas Lager is expected to arrive at local Seattle-area bars and restaurants in September, and will later expand throughout Cascadia. Follow us to stay up to date on this exciting adventure!

American Pilsner - 5% abv

‘Murican barley, ‘Murican wheat, ‘Murican Crystal hops and perhaps the most world-changing hop America has given since Cascade…the Citra hop. We consider Citra the cheat code of American brewing. It only makes beer better and in this case gives an otherwise clean and subtle American Pilsner a more-than-subtle-but-not-quite-a-burst of the aptly named “Citr”a. And we didn’t even dry hop this! Fookin’ Citra…so hot right now…so hot forever.

Czech-Style Pilsner - 5% abv

Did you know England was the first to manage making pale malt (that didn’t smell like a campfire)? It was them sheisty Austrians and Germans that sneakily “borrowed” the innovative process, took it back to their homelands and began making lighter colored beer…eventually brewing the beer that has dominated the world since then…pilsner. We wanted to pay homage to England for its hand in making “the Beer of Kings” so we added a bit of English crystal malt to a Bohemian Pilsner malt base, saturated the wort with Czech Saaz hops, then fermented with THE Czech lager yeast.

This beer reminds us of the lovely Czech quote, “in times of great decison, have another beer”.

The Pacific Northwest has a rich history when it comes to beer. When you talk to people about the heritage beers of the PNW, you're likely to hear stories about their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. The good times.

Stay tuned as we will be announcing the latest PNW-inspired project we've been working on tomorrow! 🍺🌲🐦

A Steller's jay is a native bird to the Pacific Northwest. Around here, it's often called a "blue jay", but is distinct from the blue jay (C. cristata) of eastern North America. With their vibrant blue feathers and distinctive black crests, they add a splash of color to the forest and their chatty squawks make the woods come alive! 🍺🌲🐦

There was a time, before the meteoric rise of American craft beer, when there was far less infinite choice about what beer we drank. And in some ways, that wasn't half bad. 🍺🌲🐦
